Anna Górecka

Anna Górecka, piano

Pianist Anna Górecka is particularly interested in the richness and variety of 20th- and 21st-century music. Born into the family of a composer and pianist (Henryk Mikołaj Górecki and Jadwiga Rurańska-Górecka), she had contact with eminent artists from a young age. She graduated with distinction from the Katowice Academy of Music, where she studied with Andrzej Jasiński and pursued postgraduate studies with Viktor Merzhanov. Górecka was awarded Polish Ministry of Culture and Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst scholarships. She is a prizewinner of the Senigallia and Brahms (Hamburg) International Piano Competitions and the 25th Polish Piano Festival (Słupsk).

Her London debut was a pianistic triumph, about which the Evening Standard reported: “Ms. Górecka proved herself an outstanding pianist at her Wigmore Hall debut… Her performance of the middle section of Ravel’s masterpiece Gaspard de la nuit was one of the most moving pieces of piano playing I have ever heard.” Górecka has recorded award-winning albums and performed in the most important concert halls: Great Hall of Moscow Conservatory, Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre, Osaka Festival Hall, Berlin Philharmonic, Colston Hall in Bristol, Hermitage Theatre in Saint Petersburg, National Philharmonic in Warsaw, and NOSPR Katowice.

She has performed frequently at the Warsaw Autumn International Festival of Contemporary Music, including premieres of many new works. A special place in Górecka’s repertoire is reserved for the compositions of her father, Henryk Mikołaj Górecki.
