Stephanie Marshall’s performance in the demanding title role of The Handmaid’s Tale at the English National Opera marked her out as one of the most interesting mezzo-sopranos to emerge in recent years; she reprised the role with the Canadian Opera Company. She was a Company Principal with the English National Opera and her roles there include Annio (La clemenza di Tito), Cherubino (The Marriage of Figaro), Tessa (The Gondoliers), Sonya (War and Peace), Kate Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly), Mercedes (Carmen), and Myrtale (Thais). She is also active on the concert stage and in recital. Engagements in 2010 include Kasturbai (Satyagraha) at the English National Opera.
