Violinist and violist Victor Fournelle-Blain leads an active career in orchestral and chamber music, as a soloist, and also as a teacher. After serving as a member of the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal for five years, in 2019 he was appointed Principal Viola of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and currently teaches viola at the University of Toronto.

Victor Fournelle-Blain began violin studies at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal under Johanne Arel, going on to complete a Master of Music degree under Ani Kavafian at the Yale School of Music and subsequently entering the viola class of André Roy at the Schulich School of Music of McGill University. He won McGill’s 2014 Golden Violin Award, the Prix d’Europe in 2012, and Second Prize at the OSM Competition in 2010. He has performed as a soloist with the Orchestre Métropolitain and Orchestre symphonique de Drummondville. As a violinist and founding member of the Grand-Duc Trio, he appears regularly in concert with his orchestral colleagues and with guest soloists such as Vadim Repin, Jean-Philippe Collard and Alexandre Tharaud.
