Jane Archibald

Jane Archibald’s artistry is generating excitement across Europe and North America with engagements including Rosina in Geneva, Lucia in Berlin and Zurich, Zerbinetta and Konstanze at the Bavarian State Opera Munich, Zerbinetta, Cleopatra and Olympia at the Opéra National de Paris, Sophie (Der Rosenkavalier) at La Scala Milan, Zerbinetta at the Baden-Baden Festival with Christian Thielemann and Renée Fleming, Konstanze in Zurich and Zerbinetta at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden.

Coming home to Canada, she looks forward to singing Zerbinetta and Semele with the Canadian Opera Company in 2011 and 2012. Heralded as “the coloratura of our time”, Ms. Archibald’s 2009 performance as Zerbinetta at Berlin’s Deutsche Oper garnered her rave reviews from the European press. Most recently, Ms Archibald stepped in on short notice as Ophélie in Thomas’ Hamlet in a house and role debut at the Metropolitan Opera. She has debuted many staple roles of the coloratura repertoire at the Vienna State Opera including Queen of the Night, Olympia, Sophie (Der Rosenkavalier and Werther) and Musetta. Further roles have included Adele, Giunia (Mozart’s Lucio Silla), as well as Angelica in Haydn’s Orlando Paladino with the Berlin Philharmonic and Nikolaus Harnoncourt.

A native of Nova Scotia, Ms. Archibald began her professional career after graduating from Wilfrid Laurier University. She also attended training programs at the Orford Arts Centre, the Tanglewood Music Center and the San Francisco Opera Center (Merola and Adler Fellowship). A Canada Council grant recipient, she was also the 2006 winner of the Sylva Gelber Foundation award.
