Les Petits Chanteurs du Mont Royal

Following in the tradition of the great choirs whose origins date back to the sixth century in Europe, the Petits Chanteurs du Mont-Royal choir was founded in 1956 by Father Léandre Brault, CSC. From the beginning, its mission has been to enrich the religious services of Saint Joseph’s Oratory of Mount Royal through sacred singing. The 210 boys who make up the choir, aged eight to seventeen, come from diverse cultural backgrounds but share a common passion for singing. At the choir school, they discover the great polyphonic works of all eras and all countries. Their repertoire ranges from Gregorian chant to contemporary vocal works. Throughout the year, these little singers can be heard at more than seventy religious ceremonies at Saint Joseph’s Oratory of Mount Royal and at numerous concerts. They also participate in several radio and television programs and are regularly invited to perform at the opera and present a few concerts abroad. They have sung in Korea, Venezuela, Cuba and the United States and they also perform in several European countries. The Petits Chanteurs du Mont-Royal choir is pursuing an educational project that has proven itself for sixty years. It is a place of advanced musical training where elementary students, in addition to the regular school program, receive approximately three hours of musical training per day. All students study piano, music theory, vocal technique, choral singing and sacred and secular repertoire. In high school, the training also includes learning the repertoire and introduction to music writing.
