Description
Friedrich Wilhelm Marpourg (1718-1795) was a German composer, music critic, journalist, editor and writer. Though he passed the last thirty years of his life in relative obscurity, he leaves behind a collection of compositions for harpsichord composed around 1748. These five suites, tambourines, musettes and allegros are performed by Yves G. Préfontaine, a Québec-based musician who is equally gifted as an organist. This album is the first complete recording of these suites and allegros by this important composer, who marks a pivotal moment in the transition between the French style and the newly-emerging classicism. Préfontaine performs these works on a 1986 harpsichord built by Yves Beaupré after Hemsch.
