Description

In England, the successive reigns of the House of Stuart in the 17th century were witnesses to a great boom in private music making. Although this period appeared to some as a time of decline after the great Elizabethan era, it was not without merit. After a few decades of transition, corresponding to the reign of James I, English music attuned to the new forms imported from the mainland, and developed a variegated and remarkable corpus of chamber music, adapting the spirit of the Baroque to the British temperament. This recording offers a collection works by the finest composers of the time.
