Description
Canadian cellist Cameron Crozman presents Ricercari, a highly original album for solo cello. Gabrielli’s Ricercari emerged from obscurity in 1689, heralding the beginning of music for unaccompanied cello. They serve as inspiration for six new works by Canadian, French, Colombian, and American composers commissioned by Crozman, whose own exploration is included as the seventh piece in this unique program.
“Playing Gabrielli’s Ricercari has always felt like entering a labyrinth,” says Crozman. “Gabrielli truly could not have chosen a better title for these pieces than the Italian word meaning ‘to seek out. The works offer both performers and listeners a chance to travel back to a time when music for solo cello was a brand-new idea.”
