Description
The Canadian pianist Stéphane Lemelin performs here highly evocative works by the Breton composer Joseph Guy Ropartz (1864-1955). Although many of his works are largely indebted to Franckist precepts, his personal brand of music-making, so closely moulded on the Breton spirit, sets him apart. This is especially true of his piano music. Here, one senses his ties with the landscapes and seascapes of his homeland, his admiration of Debussy, along with a strong link to a glorious musical past, and even a touch of exoticism.
