Alexander Weimann

Alexander Weimann is an ensemble director, soloist, and chamber music partner among those in the highest demand of his generation. Currently, he focuses on his activities as Music Director of the Pacific Baroque Orchestra in Vancouver and the Seattle Baroque Orchestra, and as a regular guest conductor of ensembles including the Victoria Symphony, Symphony Nova Scotia, and Arion Baroque Orchestra. Weimann studied organ, church music, musicology, theatre, medieval Latin, and jazz piano in Munich. Since 1998, he has given master classes in harpsichord and historical performance practice at institutions such as Lunds University in Malmö and the Bremen Musikhochschule, and at universities throughout Canada and the United States. He now teaches at the University of British Columbia, where he directs the Baroque Orchestra Mentorship Programme. A multiple Juno and Grammy nominee, Weimann can be heard on some 100 CDs. Recent highlights include an Opus and Juno award-winning CD of Handel oratorio arias with soprano Karina Gauvin.
