Éric Laporte

For two decades, Québécois tenor Éric Laporte has been winning acclaim on European opera stages. A compelling actor and commited musician, he is recognized equally for his vocal and dramatic qualities. He made his triumphal debuts at the Komische Oper Berlin in Barrie Kosky’s remarkable staging of Les contes d’Hoffmann; and at Oper Frankfurt in the roles of Oedipus in Stravinsky’s Oedipus rex, and as Ulysses in Fauré’s Pénélope. Éric Laporte had great success in such roles as Erik in the Opéra de Québec production of Le vaisseu fantôme; Lohengrin, in Nuremberg; Faust in Berlioz’s La damnation de Faust, and Max in Der Freischütz at Hanover. He has been invited to perform by, among others, the Bayerische Staatsoper (Munich), the Volksoper Wien (Vienna), the Scottish Opera (Glasgow), the Opéra national du Rhin (Strasbourg), Deutsche Oper am Rhein (Düsseldorf), Oper Köln (Cologne), Opéra de Nice, and Théâtre du Capitole (Toulouse). The concert recording he made of Igor Kuljerić’s Glagolitic Requiem, with the Munich Radio Orchestra under the direction of Ivan Repušić, has won many prizes. Éric Laporte studied voice with Marie Daveluy, Colette Boky, and Joseph Rouleau in Montréal; and with Danielle Demers in Québec. He began his career on stage with the Opéra de Montréal’s Atelier lyrique, before making his European debut in Salzburg in 2000.
