Hugo Laporte

Acclaimed for his elegant singing, his velvety timbre, and his outstanding stage presence, young French-Canadian baritone Hugo Laporte regularly performs around Canada, Europe, and Asia. He received awards in several competitions including the Grand prize at the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal Competition in 2014 and more recently, the Teatro alla Scala Prize at Belvedere Competition 2019 in Austria. Among Hugo Laporte’s recent roles were Figaro (Il barbiere di Siviglia) and Belcore (L’elisir d’amore) at Opéra de Québec, Mercutio (Roméo et Juliette) at Opéra de Montréal, Escamillo (Carmen) at Opéra du Royaume, and Phantom (Phantom of the Opera – in French) at Montréal’s Théâtre St-Denis and Grand Théâtre de Québec. He has also performed in France, Italy, Germany, Russia, China, and Belarus. Hugo Laporte holds a master’s degree with honors in Music – Vocal studies at Université Laval in Québec under the tutelage of soprano Patricia Fournier. He currently studies with Ghinka Radilova and previously studied with several renowned masters such as Benita Valente, Antonio Carangelo and Jean-François Lapointe.
