Jean-François Lapointe

A native of Québec, Jean-François Lapointe is considered one of the best baritones of his generation. Since beginning his career in 1983, Monsieur Lapointe has sung on some of the world’s most prestigious stages. Critics have unanimously praised the richness of his voice, the finesse of his singing, and the quality of his acting. The winner of numerous prizes, he has made his mark on the international scene singing French repertoire. During the past 40 years he has sung more than 80 principal roles. Topping the long list of his favorite repertoire is the title role of Pelléas in Pelléas et Mélisande, which he has sung around the world. As well as his operatic career, Jean-François Lapointe also performs regularly in concert, singing with some of the world’s great orchestras, and has made numerous recordings. The Metropolitan Opera of New York’s production of Dialogues des carmélites is his 16th recording. An accomplished teacher, Jean-François Lapointe regularly advices young singers, notably in master classes. Since September 2017 he has been a visiting professor at the Faculty of Music of Université Laval. In September 2020 he became the artistic director of the Opéra de Québec. Jean-François Lapointe has been named a Chevalier de l’Ordre national du Québec.
