Julia Wedman

Julia Wedman

Originally from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, violinist Julia Wedman joined the Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra in 2005 and quickly developed a reputation for her solo performances with the group. In addition to being featured regularly on the group’s home series in Toronto, Julia has performed solos on many recordings (Analekta, Tafelmusik), as well as on tours in Canada, the USA, Germany, France, Mexico, Puerto Rico, China, Korea, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand. She can be heard on other recordings as part of the Aradia Ensemble (Naxos) I Furiosi Baroque Ensemble (Sono Luminus), and the Eybler String Quartet (Analekta, Coro and Gallery Players). Her highly acclaimed debut CD of Heinrich Biber’s Mystery Sonatas (Sono Luminus) was featured in Gramophone magazine. The album of Johann Sebastian Bach concertos is her first album with L’Harmonie des saisons, with whom she began collaborating in September, 2020. Performance highlights include guest concertmaster/solo debuts with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment (London) and the Orchestra of the 18th Century (Amsterdam). Julia has been focusing intensively on the performance of J.S. Bach’s music both in recital and as part of the Toronto Bach Festival, directed by Tafelmusik oboist John Abberger. She is also midway through a cycle of Bach’s solo violin music in collaboration with the fantastically expressive dancer Brian Solomon with the Gallery Players of Niagara.
