Known for her shimmering tone, refined musicality and magnetic stage presence, Magali Simard-Galdès excels in a vast repertoire ranging from baroque to contemporary music. Since her début as Nicette (Le pré aux clercs by Hérold) at the Wexford Festival Opera, she has been heard in the roles of Constance (Dialogues des carmélites), Frasquita (Carmen) and Agnes (Written on Skin by Benjamin) at Opéra de Montréal, the latter which she also sang at Oper Köln; Gilda (Rigoletto) and Roxane (Cyrano by DiChiera) at Opera Carolina; Sophie (Werther) at Opéra de Québec and the Mad Chorus (The Overcoat by Rolfe) at Vancouver Opera. As a recitalist and concert artist, Magali has performed with the National Arts Center Orchestra, the Houston Symphony, Orchestre symphonique de Québec, Arion Orchestre Baroque, Atelier lyrique de Tourcoing, Festival Classica and Festival de Lanaudière in works including Handel’s Messiah, Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, Theodore Dubois’ Le paradis perdu and Mozart’s Mass in C minor. She has collaborated with renowned conductors such as Yannick Nézet-Séguin, François-Xavier Roth, Bernard Labadie, Alexander Shelley, and Jean-Marie Zeitouni. Recently, she has recorded the role of Agnes in George Benjamin’s Written on Skin with the Gürzenich Orchester, Berlioz’s 25 romances pour voix et guitare and Ana Sokolović’s Sirens with Ensemble contemporain de Montréal.
