Description
ATMA Classique, Ensemble ArtChoral and Mécénat Musica are proud to present Art choral, vol. 2 : Baroque I with Ensemble ArtChoral under the direction of Matthias Maute. Volume 2 surveys choral repertoire by late Renaissance and early Baroque masters such as Claudio Monteverdi (Italy), Carlo Gesulado (Spain), Gaspar Fernandes (Portugal), Heinrich Schütz, Hans Leo Hassler (Germany) and Henry Purcell (England) — composers whose music reflects the flowering of vocal polyphony in pre-baroque Europe.
The ART CHORAL series is a unique and ambitious project surveying the history of choral singing over six centuries, from the Renaissance to the present day. Consisting of 15 volumes, the series will roll out over seven years and will feature works by 70 composers from the 16th to the 21st centuries, as well as 15 webcast concerts and 150 videos.
Ensemble ArtChoral (formerly Ensemble vocal Arts-Québec) is a professional choir whose mission is to present the great tradition of choral singing in Quebec, Canada, and abroad. Following almost 40 years of leadership by founder Yves Courville, in 2019 the choir appointed two-time Juno Award winner Matthias Maute as its artistic director. The Ensemble received the Opus Award for Musical Event of the Year in 2020.
Matthias Maute has achieved international renown as a conductor, recorder and flute player, and composer. Maute is appreciated for his artistic direction of Ensemble Caprice, with whom he creates ingenious programs and large-scale projects. In 2016, he was appointed Artistic Director of the Bach Society of Minnesota and, in 2019, of the professional choir of Ensemble vocal Arts-Québec, now Ensemble ArtChoral.
