Description
Viewed in the context of his total production (more than 100 operas, more than 800 secular cantatas, 200 masses…), Alessandro Scarlatti produced few works for keyboard. Near the end of his life, he seems to have turned toward the harpsichord, the organ, and the harp, having left the hectic life of Rome and Venice to isolate himself in Naples, where he devoted himself to teaching.
The harpsichordist Alexander Weimann has recorded these complete works on three CDs; they include 30 toccatas, numerous variations, including those on la Folia, fugues, études, sonatas, and various movements.
