Description
André Hamel is a versatile composer who is interested in the performance environment as much as the composing process. His compositions have been performed regularly since the mid-1980s, and has been heard in Montréal, Brussels, Toronto, Sofia, Bologna, Vienna, Miami, and Lyons. This album presents an overview of his development as a composer, and consists of works written over the last 15 years including La Trilogie Du Presto (1989) — three solos scored for percussion (Julien Gregoire), cello (Catherine Perron) and piano (Angela Tosheva); L’heure bleue (2003) for harpsichord (Catherine Perrin); and an octet for saxophone ensemble entitled À Huit (2001), performed by the Quasar and the ARTE saxophone quartets.
