Description
César Franck, a “just and honest man” as described by Chabrier, navigates between mysticism and sensuality. This duality is reflected in all his music. He devoted himself entirely to his works, which matured slowly. As for Louis Vierne, the “tardy romantic”, he wanted only “to stir the emotions”. The music of these two artists is the “mirror of the struggle” they maintained throughout their lives, one of them attains a palpable serenity, the other arrives at a certain appeasement. Both were about 40 years old when they composed the works on this disc’s program.
