Description
Impressions de France is a reissue of a popular 1996 recording featuring clarinet soloist André Moisan. The program includes music by Debussy, Saint-Saëns, Rabaud, Poulenc, and Françaix representing the most famous French compositions from the late 19th century. Although most of the works on program were composed over a period of about 25 years, they are amazingly varied in style.
Mosian chose to use an earlier manuscript of Debussy’s Rhapsody for this CD. He maintains that this version restores the piece to its original concept, before the suggested changes by clarinetist Paul Mimart, who premiered the work in 1911.
