The Kiosque à musique pays homage to those musicians from the beginning of the last century who would gather together to play music in city or village bandstands, performing outdoor concerts with the instruments they had at hand. The programmes they played were mainly made up of popular overtures, brilliant show pieces that would showcase the various band members, and important works by opera and ballet composers. This pleasant setting, less formal than the concert hall or aristocratic salon, encouraged the population to discover and learn to appreciate new works. The Kiosque à musique seeks here to rekindle that spirit.
