Description
“None but Silvius should play the lute!” – Johann Ulrich von König, 18th s.
Bernhard Hofstötter and Dolores Costoyas are lutenists who make their ATMA recording debut with music by the 18th century German composer Silvius Leopold Weiss. Based in Rome for several years, Weiss was profoundly influenced by Domenico Scarlatti, and his music is characterized by an exquisite melancholy and pathos. The manuscripts for the Suites included in this ATMA recording were recently discovered in a private Austrian library. A rare glimpse into Viennese musical tastes and practises during the first half of the 18th century!
