Description
Arguably more robust, more precise and easier to play, the cornet soon replaced the keyed bugle as the preferred melodic instrument. Although the cornet is still played today and the old band traditions are kept alive, especially in the amateur Brass Bands of Britain, it is sadly an instrument of past century. Innovative compositions were written for its most prestigious soloists between 1860 and 1915, the “golden age” of the cornet, and its popularity lasted a century from the 1850’s to 1950’s.
