Born in Brussels, the tenor Stephan Van Dyck completed his Diplôme Supérieur de Chant at the Conservatoire Royal de Musique in Brussels and his degree in Musicology at the Université Libre de Bruxelles. He furthered his studies at the Studio Versailles Opéra with René Jacobs and Rachel Yakar and at the Paris Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique, where he was awarded a Premier Prix in the class of William Christie. He has gained recognition as a soloist singing under the direction of Christophe Rousset (Les Talens Lyriques), William Christie (Les Arts Florissants), Philippe Pierlot (Ricercar Consort), Hervé Niquet (Le Concert Spirituel), Martin Gester (Le Parlement de Musique), Jordi Savall (Le Concert des Nations), Stephen Stubbs (Tragicomédia), and Gabriel Garrido (Elyma)… He is often called upon by Concerto Palatino (B. Dickey, C. Toets) and La Fenice (J. Tubéry) to sing solo vocal parts. He held the title role in Don Quichotte (Boismortier) at the Paris Opéra Comique as well as the roles of Admète in Lully’s Alceste in Nancy and Dijon (dir. Hervé Niquet), Carlo in Pergolesi’s Lo frate ’nnamorato at Royaumont (dir. R. Goodman), Varo in Handel’s Arminio in Montpellier and Nîmes, Azor in Grétry’s Zémire et Azor in Nantes, David in Charpentier’s Mors Saülis et Jonathae in Prague, Mercure in Lully’s Persée in Ambronay, etc. He has participated in over 55 recordings, in repertoires ranging from the middle ages to the Classical era. He has notably recorded the complete airs de cour by Joseph Chabanceau de la Barre with the lutenist Stephen Stubbs, Monterverdi’s Vespers under Masaaki Suzuki in Japan, Il Canzionere, a recording in duet with Maria Christina Kiehr under Jean Tubéry, and the canzonettas of J. Haydn with fortepiano. He teaches singing at the Royal Conservatories of Mons and Brussels. The Conservatories of Toulouse and Oslo often invite him to give master classes.
