Bassoon virtuoso Mathieu Lussier is the featured soloist in a new ATMA recording of works by François Devienne — “the French Mozart”, and a major figure in Paris’s musical life in the years leading up to the French Revolution. These six sonatas for bassoon, fortepiano (Richard Paré) and cello (Benoit Loiselle) embody all the hallmarks of classical style, while aniticpating the tumultuous changes of Romanticism just around the corner.
