Gabriel Fauré, the greatest master of French art song in the second half of the 19th century, composed more than one hundred songs throughout his creative years. Most of the songs selected for this disc were composed between 1875 and 1884. Listeners will find all the aristocratic elegance of Faure’s art, and hear the intrinsic beauty of the melodic lines and the cello’s noble sonority.
