Description
La traverse miraculeuse brings together two Québec music groups, Les Charbonniers de l’Enfer and La Nef, who have looked back to the sea-going past of their culture to find common ground in songs of the 18th century.
Most of the songs on the CD come from the repertoire of Les Charbonniers de l’enfer and were collected in Québec or Acadia, while others evoke the struggle between the English and the French during the Seven Years War. Musical director Sylvain Bergeron describes the songs on La traverse miraculeuse as “at once simple yet steeped in mystery, they tell the story of those who crossed the waters of countless rivers and oceans.”
